What happened to Mint?
Intuit announced on November 2, 2023 that it would close Mint, and the app shut down on March 23, 2024. Intuit sent Mint users to Credit Karma, which it also owns. Users who moved before the deadline could bring their linked accounts, net worth, and Mint transaction history to Credit Karma. Mint profiles that were not moved are gone.
Credit Karma took over Mint's net worth and spending tracking, but it is a different product. Mint was a free budgeting app; Credit Karma is a free credit and net worth app that recommends credit cards and loans. That gap is why so many Mint users went looking for a replacement.
What is the best Mint alternative?
It depends on what you used Mint for. For free tracking and a credit score, Credit Karma. For a budget you share with a partner, Monarch. For hands-on budgeting, YNAB. For cancelling subscriptions, Rocket Money. For a well-designed app on Apple devices, Copilot Money. If you already use Claude or ChatGPT, Candor lets your agent keep the budget in place of an app.
Every option below links your accounts and tracks spending. They differ on price, who does the budgeting, and whether your AI agent can use them.

Is Credit Karma a good Mint replacement?
For tracking, yes. Credit Karma is free and shows your balances, spending by category, monthly cash flow, net worth, and credit score in one place. For budgeting, less so. It does not have category budgets you set yourself the way Mint did. Its Paycheck Assistant suggests a plan for each paycheck instead.
In 2026 Credit Karma added Credit Karma Intelligence, which answers questions about your credit and spending, and an app in ChatGPT and Claude that gives credit insights, spending insights, and loan recommendations from your Credit Karma data. Its Debt Assistant and its ChatGPT app also show credit card and loan offers.
If you mostly opened Mint to check your net worth and credit, Credit Karma is enough. If you opened it to stay on a budget, look at the other options.
Is there a free Mint alternative?
Yes. Credit Karma is free. ChatGPT Finances is included in every ChatGPT plan in the U.S., including Free, and answers questions about your linked accounts. Rocket Money has a free plan with two custom category budgets. Monarch, YNAB, Copilot, and Candor are paid.
Mint was free and earned money from financial product offers. The free options today work the same way or come bundled with something else you pay for. Candor starts at $8.25 a month on the annual plan ($99 a year), or $14.99 month to month, and the first 7 days are free. Candor does not sell your data or use it for advertising; the subscription is the business.
Which Mint alternatives work with Claude or ChatGPT?
Monarch's official connector works in Claude and ChatGPT, with read-only or read and write access and weekly usage limits. Copilot Money's official MCP server is read-only. Credit Karma has an app in both. YNAB and Rocket Money have no official connector. Candor is listed in Claude's connector directory and ChatGPT's plugin directory.
A connector lets your agent look things up in an app. The budget still lives in that app, and the reasons behind your decisions stay in old chats. With Candor, your agent keeps the budget, goals, and decisions with their reasons, so the next conversation, in any agent, starts where the last one ended.
Can your AI agent replace Mint?
Yes, with Candor. It connects your accounts to Claude, ChatGPT, or another agent, and your agent does the job Mint did. It sorts your spending, tracks it against a budget, and flags what changed. Tell it what you're after, like paying off a card or building an emergency fund, and it sets up goals measured from your accounts and a budget that pays for them.
Mint's alerts told you about a large charge or a bill coming up. Every week Candor reviews your records for things like a price increase, a duplicate charge, a category running ahead of plan, or a bill due before payday, and tells your agent which are worth talking through and why. Your agent brings them up when you ask, or on a schedule if it supports scheduled tasks.
Candor is read-only and has no tool to move money. It does not train AI models on your financial information, it records every read and change your agent makes with its reason, and you can export or delete your data at any time.
Who should choose an app instead?
Choose an app if you want something to open every day without an AI agent involved. Monarch suits households and Android users, Copilot suits one person on Apple devices, and YNAB suits people who like budgeting by hand. Credit Karma suits anyone who wants free tracking and a credit score.
Candor has no phone app of its own and does not include a credit score. You use it through your agent, wherever that agent runs, and on a web dashboard.
What should you check before switching?
Check that your banks connect, that enough transaction history comes through, and that the first budget your agent sets up looks right. Run one complete review before you pay for a year of anything.
Candor links your accounts itself and does not import Mint or Credit Karma history. If you kept a Mint export, your agent can read the file itself for older trends.
