What you need in ChatGPT
Candor Finance is in ChatGPT's plugin directory, which is open on every ChatGPT plan, including Free. Install it at chatgpt.com or in the desktop app and the phone app uses it too. In a Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace, an admin may need to allow it first.
Check it worked
Start a new conversation with ChatGPT, enable Candor if asked, and send this:
Check whether the candor-finance skill and Candor access are ready. Tell me about anything missing. If access works, continue my financial task, or start a first review of my money if I have not named one. Be clear about gaps in the records.
Open a new conversation, select Candor Finance, and ask ChatGPT to open your workspace. Check that it reports which accounts Candor covers, citing an actual account or transaction once you have connected one, and that the candor-finance skill is loaded; the directory plugin brings both. If you connected Candor as a custom app instead, upload the skill where the account offers it, or ChatGPT should state that only the tools are connected. A plugin badge alone does not establish that it has your financial records.
What you should see: ChatGPT names the accounts available in Candor and tells you how recent the information is. If you have not added accounts yet, it should explain how to add them. A missing account or older information does not mean setup failed. Ask ChatGPT what is missing before installing again.
What to try with ChatGPT and Candor
Use a first review to establish which accounts are covered, then choose a question to work through together. For a household conversation, ask for a private agenda you can edit before sharing it. Candor's records give the discussion a factual starting point; you supply the priorities and what should stay private.
What access are you granting?
ChatGPT can read the financial records you connect or import into Candor, including available balances, transactions, debts, and holdings. It can also maintain notes and approved plans in the workspace.
Candor has no tool to move money, pay a bill, trade, or cancel a service. Your agent uses its own tools and your authorization for external actions. Candor records a reason for each agent operation, and you can revoke the connection from your account controls.
Common questions
- What does Candor add to ChatGPT?
- A finance app of its own. Candor reviews your records whenever they change and keeps a short list of what deserves attention, from a price increase to idle cash or an employer match, with the figures behind each item. ChatGPT reads that list when you ask, or on a schedule if it supports one, and the budgets, goals, and decisions you approve are saved for the next conversation and for any other agent you use.
- ChatGPT already has Finances. Why add Candor?
- ChatGPT's built-in Finances answers what you ask, inside ChatGPT. Candor keeps a short list of what deserves attention across your whole picture, including cash, debt, insurance, and tax questions, and saves the plans and reasons you approve in a workspace your other agents can use too. You can keep both.
- Does connecting Candor create a recurring review?
- No. First test a review in a conversation. If your ChatGPT surface supports scheduling with the required tools, ask it to create a schedule and confirm the result. The Candor connection alone does not start background work.
- What does Candor cost?
- Candor starts at $8.25 a month on the annual plan ($99 a year), or $14.99 month to month, and the first 7 days are free. ChatGPT's own plan and usage charges are separate.
- How do I disconnect ChatGPT?
- Revoke the agent's access in your Candor account controls. You can also disconnect a financial institution. Removing a local skill alone does not revoke an existing authorization.
