How do ChatGPT Finances, Monarch, and Copilot Money compare?
Monarch: a household budget with separate logins, $99.99 a year. Copilot Money: spending and budgets on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and the web, $95 a year. ChatGPT Finances: questions about linked accounts inside ChatGPT, included in every U.S. ChatGPT plan, including Free. None of the three can move money.

Is ChatGPT Finances a replacement for Monarch or Copilot?
Not for everyone. ChatGPT Finances answers questions about your linked accounts and shows a dashboard, at no extra cost. Monarch and Copilot are budgeting apps with structure you set up once: budgets you check against, categories the app keeps, and a household view in Monarch. If you mostly want answers, ChatGPT may be enough. If you want a budget you keep, an app still does more.
OpenAI's help center lists what Finances covers: spending by category, subscriptions, bills, upcoming payments, net worth, portfolio allocation, and an optional Experian credit report and score. You can ask in any ChatGPT conversation, and ChatGPT can save context you share, such as a savings goal, as a financial memory.
ChatGPT cannot move money, pay bills, or change accounts, and OpenAI says it is not a fiduciary or registered investment adviser. Spending totals depend on how transactions were categorized, so ask which transactions an answer used when a number looks off.
When is Monarch the better choice?
When a household manages money together. One Monarch subscription covers unlimited members with their own logins, Shared Views mark accounts and transactions as yours, mine, or ours, and Flex budgeting handles fixed, flexible, and non-monthly spending. Its AI Assistant answers questions inside the app.
Monarch's connector for outside agents such as Claude and ChatGPT launched in June 2026 and was paused at the end of June over a data portability question from one of its data providers. Its help page says connected members will be emailed when it returns.
When is Copilot Money the better choice?
When you want a beautiful app to check your spending on Apple devices or the web. Copilot learns your categories as you review them, budgets with rollovers, and tracks investments and net worth. Its Money Assistant and its read-only MCP server for outside agents are both in waitlisted beta.
Copilot has no Android app. Partners share one account through a login link, and both get full control.
What if you want ChatGPT to keep a real budget and plan?
That is the gap Candor fills. Add Candor to ChatGPT from its plugin directory and ChatGPT works from your exact figures, sets up goals with a pace and a budget that pays for them, and saves the plan with its reasons. Candor finds what's worth talking through and tells ChatGPT why, and the same workspace opens in Claude or any other agent you use.
Candor is read-only toward your accounts and cannot move money. It does not train AI models on your financial information, and it keeps a history of your agent's financial reads and changes with the reason for each.
Candor and ChatGPT Finances can sit side by side: each links accounts separately. Candor does not read or change your Monarch or Copilot data either, so a household can keep its app while you work through bigger questions with your agent.
How did we compare them?
We publish Candor, so we have a stake in this comparison, and none of the three compared here is ours. ChatGPT Finances facts come from OpenAI's help center and announcements, checked October 12, 2026. Monarch and Copilot facts come from their own pricing, help, and product pages, checked September 24, 2026, with connector status rechecked October 12.

Common questions
- Is ChatGPT Finances free?
- It is included in every ChatGPT plan in the U.S., including Free and Go, on the web, iOS, and Android. Paid ChatGPT plans cost $8 to $200 a month in the U.S. and add more of ChatGPT, not a separate finance fee.
- Can ChatGPT Finances make a budget?
- It can plan a budget with you in conversation and remember goals you share as financial memories. Its dashboard shows spending by category, bills, and subscriptions. Monarch and Copilot keep budgets you set up and check against inside their apps.
- Can I use Monarch or Copilot Money from ChatGPT?
- Not easily right now. Monarch paused its MCP connector at the end of June 2026, and Copilot Money's read-only MCP server is in waitlisted beta. Candor is available in ChatGPT's plugin directory today.
- Which is best for couples?
- Monarch, if you both want to open an app: one subscription covers unlimited members with separate logins. Copilot shares one account through a login link. ChatGPT Finances belongs to one ChatGPT account.
- How much does Candor cost?
- Candor starts at $8.25 a month on the annual plan ($99 a year), or $14.99 month to month, and the first 7 days are free.
