Is Claude Personal Finance better than ChatGPT Finances?
They answer the same kind of question: where your money went, what changed, and what is coming up. ChatGPT Finances is on more plans, including Free, shows investment holdings and an optional credit score, and keeps financial memories between chats. Claude Personal Finance is newer, in beta, and keeps no memory from chats that used your accounts.
Claude's hub reads balances for investment, loan, and card accounts, not holdings, rates, or terms. Its linked accounts are not available to scheduled tasks, Cowork, or Claude Code, and may not work in a project. ChatGPT can save context you share, such as a savings goal, as a financial memory, and sends weekly updates.
Both are read-only, and both work only inside their own assistant. If you use Claude and ChatGPT for different things, neither one sees what you worked out in the other.
When is Monarch the better choice?
When a household manages money together in an app. One Monarch subscription covers the household, each member gets their own login at no extra cost, and Flex budgeting handles fixed, flexible, and non-monthly spending. Its MCP connector lets Claude and ChatGPT read your Monarch data, read-only by default.
Monarch's connector works in Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Gemini CLI, Cursor, and ChatGPT on the web with a Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Education plan, with weekly usage caps. Monarch says data it gets through Finicity, which can include Fidelity brokerage accounts, is not yet available through the connector.
When is Candor the better choice?
When you want your agent to set up a plan and keep you on it. Tell Claude or ChatGPT what you want, and with Candor it sets up goals from your real accounts and a budget that pays for them. Every week Candor reads all of it and tells your agent what matters most.
A chat's memory keeps facts you mention. Candor keeps the context behind your numbers: goals measured from your accounts, the budget, rules for what each merchant means, decisions with their reasons, and what came of each thing it raised. It calculates the figures from your records.
The same workspace opens in Claude, ChatGPT, Grok Bot, Muse, and other agents, so a budget you set up in Claude is there when you ask ChatGPT. Claude can open Candor in a scheduled task, so a Monday check-in arrives without you asking.
Candor is read-only toward your accounts and has no tool to move money. It does not train AI models on your financial information, and it keeps a record of every read and change your agent makes, with the reason. Claude Personal Finance and ChatGPT Finances come with plans you may already pay for, while Candor is a separate subscription.
What should you try first with Candor?
Start with one decision: whether a bill changed, a refund arrived, or your spending still fits a goal. Add Candor to Claude or ChatGPT, approve access, and ask your agent to open the workspace and show the records before working through the question.
Link your accounts in Candor rather than in both Candor and the built-in feature. Run the check-in below once, then ask your agent to schedule it weekly if it supports scheduled tasks.
Open Candor, go through this week's review with me, and show me what changed in the last seven days, with the records behind the figures. Look ahead to upcoming bills and revisit any refund or goal we discussed. Tell me what's missing, then save the decisions we make for next time.
How did we compare them?
We publish Candor, so we have a stake in this comparison, and none of the three compared here is ours. Claude facts come from Anthropic's announcement, help center, and pricing page; ChatGPT facts from OpenAI's help center and release notes; Monarch facts from its pricing page and help center. All were checked November 6, 2026.
Claude's Personal Finance is in beta and rolling out, and plans and prices change often. The sources below link to each vendor's own page.
Common questions
- Is Claude Personal Finance free?
- No. It is on Claude's Pro, Max, and Ultra plans in the U.S., starting at $20 a month. ChatGPT Finances is on every U.S. ChatGPT plan, including Free.
- Can I use Claude Personal Finance and ChatGPT Finances together?
- You can link the same banks to both, but each keeps its own connection and neither sees the other's chats. With Candor, you link your accounts once and Claude, ChatGPT, and your other agents work from the same plan and decisions.
- Which one shows my investments?
- ChatGPT Finances and Monarch show holdings. Claude Personal Finance reads investment balances only, not holdings or trades. Candor gives your agent holdings and balances from your accounts.
- Can Monarch work with Claude Personal Finance?
- They are separate. Monarch's MCP connector lets Claude read your Monarch data in a normal chat, while Personal Finance links your banks to Claude directly through Plaid.
- How much does Candor cost?
- Candor starts at $8.25 a month on the annual plan ($99 a year), or $14.99 month to month, and the first 7 days are free.
