What is Era?
Era, from Tinwell Labs Inc., makes Era Context: a personal MCP server that connects bank, card, investment, and retailer accounts to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other MCP clients. It has been in Claude's connector directory, marked Anthropic verified, since May 2026. Agents can read and organize transactions, set rules, and, in a private beta, send transfers between your own accounts with your approval.
Era has three products. Context is the MCP server most people mean when they say Era. Agency is an app that acts on rules you set up front: income detection, scheduled money movement, unusual-charge alerts, price-increase checks on recurring bills, and weekly spending digests. It is on a private waitlist for U.S. residents. Thesis, a research, backtesting, and model-portfolio tool, is in private beta with brokerage through Alpaca Securities.
Era Financial Advisors LLC, an Era subsidiary, is an SEC-registered investment adviser (CRD #334404). Era's launch announcement says that for paid users it is the adviser of record on financial guidance and on any action taken on their behalf. Era also offers cross-agent memory: preferences, notes, and goals that follow you from Claude to ChatGPT. Context connects accounts in the U.S., the UK, Canada, and 40+ countries in all, and in the U.S. it can read item-level orders from retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, and Target. Era raised a $6.2 million seed round in February 2025, bringing total funding to $9.1 million.
What is Candor?
Candor is the financial workspace your own agent works in. It reviews your records whenever they change and keeps a short list of what needs a decision, each item with the figures behind it and the reason it made the list. What you approve, such as budgets, goals, notes, and decisions, is saved with its reason. Candor is read-only and works in Claude, ChatGPT, Grok Bot, Meta Muse, and other agents.
The list covers what a careful advisor would raise: a price increase, a duplicate charge, idle cash while a card charges interest, budget drift, missing income, debt deadlines, goal pace, and questions with no single transaction behind them, like an employer match left on the table, insurance after a life change, or a tax deadline. If nothing qualifies, the list is empty. Your agent reads it when you ask, or on a schedule if your agent supports scheduled tasks; the schedule belongs to the agent.
Totals, budget pace, and variance are computed from the records, so your agent reports a figure instead of predicting one. Candor has no tool to move money, pay a bill, trade, or cancel a service. Candor is not a licensed adviser and gives no advice: your agent makes suggestions and you decide.
Candor vs Era: what is the difference?
Era Context is a data and action connection: your agent reads your accounts through it and, with approval, can move money through it, with an SEC-registered adviser behind the product. Candor is a read-only workspace: it tells your agent what needs a decision and keeps the plans and reasons you approved, and your agent acts elsewhere through its own tools.
Both keep context that follows you between agents, both log what agents do, both let you revoke access, and both say they never sell your data or train models on it. The table shows where they part ways.

Can Era move money from your bank account?
Partly. Era says an agent connected through Context can send transfers between your own accounts, with every transfer needing your explicit approval, and that sending transfers is in private beta. Its FAQ says agents cannot pay bills, place trades, or file taxes. Automated money movement on the Automate plan is listed as coming soon. Candor cannot move money at all.
Era's Agency app is where rules run without a prompt: it detects income and moves money on a schedule, within rules you approve up front. Thesis proposes trades that need your approval unless you turn on its autonomous mode. So the approval model depends on which Era product you use.
Candor draws the line in the product itself. Your agent can read Candor and save what you approve, but any payment, transfer, trade, or cancellation happens elsewhere, through the agent's own tools and your authorization. That keeps what your agent can see separate from what it can do.
Who should choose Era?
Choose Era if you want your agent to move money through the same connection it reads from, with approval on each action, or if you want a registered investment adviser behind the product. It also suits people who want item-level retailer orders, accounts outside the U.S., a Claude directory listing, or a free tier for two accounts.
Era is a serious product built on a real regulatory structure. If your plan is to have Claude sweep savings between your own accounts, or to try model portfolios under an adviser of record, Era is built for that and Candor is not.
Who should choose Candor instead?
Choose Candor if you want your agent to open a short list of what needs a decision, with the figures and reason for each, rather than start from raw data. It suits people who want approved budgets, goals, and decisions saved with reasons, a workspace with no money-moving tools, and one setup that works in Claude, ChatGPT, Grok Bot, Muse, and other agents.
The list is the difference you notice first. Instead of asking your agent to go looking, you ask what needs attention, and it starts from items like a subscription that went up, cash sitting idle while a card charges interest, or an employer match you are not collecting. The second difference shows up next month: the budget you approved and the charge you chose to keep are already there, with the reason you gave, for whichever agent you ask.
Is Era's cross-agent memory the same as Candor's saved plans?
They overlap. Era's memory stores preferences, notes, and confirmed facts that any connected agent can read, with 200 facts on its Organize plan and unlimited on Automate. Candor saves the things you approved, such as a budget, a goal, a decision, or a correction, each with its reason, and pairs them with the list of what needs a decision now.
In practice, Era's memory helps your agent remember who you are. Candor's saved plans help your agent pick up where the last conversation stopped: what you agreed to, why, and what has changed in the records since.
How was this comparison researched?
Era facts come from Era's own product, pricing, FAQ, and company pages, its launch announcement, and Claude's connector directory, all checked on September 22, 2026. Candor facts describe the product as of the same date.
Candor is included because this is Candor's site, and the page says where Era is the better fit. Era's transfers and automated money movement are marked beta or coming soon on its own pages, so check era.app for their current status. Sources are listed below.
Common questions
- How much does Era cost?
- As of September 22, 2026, Era's pricing page lists Basic free for 2 connected accounts, Organize at $6.99 per month for 15 accounts, Automate at $17.49 per month for 100 accounts, and Operate at $55.99 per seat per month. Candor is a flat subscription with a free trial, with the price shown before you connect anything.
- Is Era Context read-only?
- No. Era describes Context as read-write: agents can tag transactions, organize categories, create rules, and, in a private beta, send transfers between your own accounts, each needing your explicit approval. Candor is read-only and has no tool to move money, pay a bill, trade, or cancel a service.
- Does Era work with ChatGPT?
- Yes. Era says Context works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and any MCP-compatible client, and its setup guide adds Era's server URL in ChatGPT's settings. Candor also works in ChatGPT, as well as Claude, Grok Bot, Meta Muse, Codex, and other agents.
- Is Era a financial advisor?
- Era's subsidiary, Era Financial Advisors LLC, is an SEC-registered investment adviser (CRD #334404), and Era says it is the adviser of record for paid users. Candor is not a licensed adviser and gives no advice; your agent makes suggestions and you decide.
- Can I use Candor and Era together?
- Yes, if your agent supports more than one connector. Both connect over MCP, so an agent could read Candor's list and saved plans and use Era for transfers. Candor would not see or approve anything done through Era.
- What is the best Era alternative?
- It depends on why you are leaving. For an agent-native workspace that is read-only, keeps a short list of what needs a decision, and saves your plans for any agent, Candor. For a built-in option inside one assistant, ChatGPT's Finances. For a traditional app you look at yourself, Monarch or Copilot.
