# Personal finance MCP servers for Claude and ChatGPT, compared.

Updated 2026-10-27. Canonical page: https://candor.money/personal-finance-mcp-servers

Yes, there are personal finance MCP servers that connect Claude, ChatGPT, and other agents to your real bank and investment accounts. Some read a budgeting app you already use: Monarch, Copilot Money, PocketSmith, and Tiller have official servers, and YNAB has community ones. Others link your banks directly, such as Candor, Era Context, Truthifi, BankSync, Bonsave, and OpenBudget. Candor goes further than a connection. Your agent sets up goals and a budget that pays for them from your real records, Candor calculates the figures and keeps each decision with its reason, and every week it flags what needs attention, like a bill that went up or a goal falling behind. Candor cannot move money.

## How it works with your agent

1. Create a Candor account and link your accounts through bank-grade sign-in.
2. Copy one setup message into Claude, ChatGPT, or your agent, and approve its access.
3. Ask what changed this month; your agent answers from your records with the figures.
4. What you decide, such as a budget, a goal, or a charge you keep, is saved with its reason.

## Which MCP server is best for budgeting?

It depends on who keeps the budget. If you keep it in an app such as Monarch, Copilot Money, PocketSmith, Tiller, or YNAB, that app's server lets your agent read it, and some let it edit. If you want your agent to keep the budget itself, use Candor: your agent builds it from your linked accounts, keeps it current, and saves the history and reasons for each change.

Before you rely on a budgeting server, check how accounts sync, whether transfers and card payments are kept out of spending, and whether the agent can see how current each figure is before it tells you where you stand.

Write access is convenient for categorizing and editing, and it also means a mistaken instruction changes your budget. Candor never touches your bank accounts, and saves budget changes in its own workspace with the reason, so you can see what your agent changed and why.

## How do you choose a personal finance MCP server?

Check the financial records it covers, whether it can change your budget or move money, how it signs in your agent, and what work persists between sessions. MCP only describes the connection. It says nothing about how safe or accurate the financial service is.

Hosted servers that use OAuth let you approve and revoke an agent without handing it a password. Community servers often run on your own computer with an API token or a saved login, so you are responsible for where that token lives. For Candor, bank access is read-only and workspace records can be updated: your agent can save budgets, goals, and decisions, while payments, trades, and cancellations need separate tools outside Candor.

## What personal finance MCP servers are there?

As of October 27, 2026: official servers from Monarch, Copilot Money, PocketSmith, Tiller, Kubera, Truthifi, BankSync, Bonsave, OpenBudget, PopaDex, and Era Context; open-source Finlynq, Wealthfolio, and Actual Budget servers; community servers for YNAB; open-source Plaid servers you run yourself; and Candor.

They differ in three ways that matter before you connect one: who runs it, whether the agent can change anything, and what the server holds beyond raw transactions. Tool counts and plans change often, so check each vendor's documentation for the current list.

Pick by the job. If you already budget in PocketSmith, Tiller, or YNAB, their servers put that data in front of your agent. If you want to run everything on your own machine, the open-source servers do that, and you manage your own keys. If you want your agent to set up a plan from your real accounts, keep it with the reasons behind it, and arrive each week knowing what needs attention, use Candor.

Personal finance MCP servers, checked October 16, 2026 (Monarch on October 23; Copilot Money, Truthifi, BankSync, Bonsave, and OpenBudget on October 27, 2026), against each maker's own documentation or repository:

| Server | Where it runs | Account access | What it holds |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| PocketSmith | Hosted by PocketSmith, OAuth 2.0 with PKCE; full access listed in the Claude and ChatGPT directories | Your choice of two endpoints: read-only (40 tools) or full access (66 tools); deleting anything needs your approval | Your PocketSmith accounts, transactions, categories, and budget events |
| Tiller | Hosted by Tiller; in Claude's connector directory since October 2026, including on Claude's free plan | Reads your sheet; can update categories and notes after you approve | Your Tiller-powered Google Sheet (not Excel) |
| YNAB (community servers, Composio) | No official server. Community servers run on your machine with a YNAB personal access token; some are hosted behind YNAB's OAuth | Varies: many create and delete transactions and move money between budget categories; some default to read-only | Your YNAB plan, accounts, and transactions |
| Actual Budget (actual-mcp) | Open source (MIT); runs on your machine against your own Actual Budget server | Read tools by default; writes to transactions, categories, payees, and rules need a flag | Your Actual Budget accounts, transactions, categories, and budgets |
| Monarch | Hosted by Monarch, OAuth; Core and Plus, with weekly usage limits (higher on Plus) | Read-only by default; read and write lets it edit transactions, tags, and rules | Your Monarch accounts, transactions, budgets, and net worth history, except accounts linked through Finicity |
| Copilot Money | Hosted by Copilot for every subscriber since October 27, 2026; Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, and Cursor | Read-only | Accounts, investments, transactions, categories, budgets, recurring charges, tags, and goals as they appear in Copilot |
| Era Context | Hosted by Era, OAuth 2.1 | Read and write: tags, categories, and rules; transfers between your own accounts in private beta, each approved by you | Balances, holdings, transactions, retailer order items, rules, and shared memory |
| Kubera | Hosted by Kubera; OAuth or an API key, depending on the client | Read and write: creates and updates assets, debts, and cash flows | Net worth, portfolios, value history, and recap reports |
| Truthifi | Hosted by Truthifi, OAuth; in paid memberships and MCP-only plans, with limited tools on the free plan | Read-only; cannot move money or place trades | Bank and investment accounts aggregated by Truthifi |
| BankSync | Hosted by BankSync, API key; Standard plan or above | Reads transactions, balances, and holdings, and can run syncs and set up feeds and reports; cannot move money | Bank data synced through open banking |
| Bonsave | Bonsave's server for Claude and other MCP clients; Pro or Ultra plan | 14 read-only tools; no money movement | Bank, card, and investment accounts linked to Bonsave |
| OpenBudget | Hosted by OpenBudget for Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, Hermes, and OpenClaw; U.S. only | Read-only | Spending, balances, debts, and budgets from linked U.S. banks; brokerage and retirement accounts on its Investor plan |
| Finlynq | Open source (AGPL v3): free hosted cloud or self-hosted with Docker | Read and write, including transactions, budgets, and goals | Its own ledger of transactions, budgets, investments, loans, and goals |
| Wealthfolio | Open source (AGPL v3) desktop or self-hosted app, scoped access tokens | Read-only by default; write scopes are opt-in | Your Wealthfolio portfolio, activities, and transactions |
| Open-source Plaid servers (bank-mcp, personal-finance-mcp) | Self-hosted with your own bank-data API keys | Read-only by design | Balances and transactions pulled from your banks through your own API keys |
| PopaDex | Hosted by PopaDex, scoped API key | 11 read-only tools; no money movement | Net worth and portfolio, plus salary, tax, and retirement calculators |
| Candor | Hosted at https://api.candor.money/mcp, OAuth 2.1; listed in the Claude and ChatGPT directories | Read-only toward your accounts; writes only workspace state you approve, such as budgets, goals, and notes | Goals and budgets with their history, notes, decisions, accounts, transactions, recurring payments, holdings, and the weekly review's areas and gaps |

## Do Monarch, YNAB, and Copilot Money have MCP servers?

Monarch and Copilot Money do. Monarch's official connector returned on October 21, 2026, and Copilot's read-only server opened to every subscriber on October 27, 2026. YNAB has no official server, but community servers work today through its API with a personal access token. Unofficial Monarch and Copilot servers rely on private interfaces those apps do not support.

Each comparison below covers the connector's current status, what community servers do and the risks of running one, and what you get with Candor instead: a plan your agent sets up and keeps, and a weekly review.

## What does Candor's server give your agent that the others don't?

A plan of its own. Most finance servers let your agent read, and sometimes edit, the records in an app or a bank feed. With Candor, your agent sets up goals and a budget from your accounts and keeps them current, Candor calculates the figures from your records and keeps each decision with its reason, and every week it tells your agent what to bring up, such as a price increase or a duplicate charge.

The plan stays in Candor when you switch agents, so a budget set up in Claude is there when you ask ChatGPT. Candor is read-only toward your accounts and has no tool to move money, pay a bill, or cancel a service.

## How did we compare them?

Each server in the table was checked against its maker's own documentation, announcement, or repository on October 16, 2026, Monarch's again on October 23, and Copilot Money, Truthifi, BankSync, Bonsave, and OpenBudget on October 27, 2026. We publish Candor, so we have a stake in this comparison, and the page says which server fits a budget you already keep.

Where a vendor page and a directory listing disagreed, this page uses the vendor page. Servers change their access models and plans often; check the linked documentation before you connect one.

## Common questions

### What is a personal finance MCP server?

A Model Context Protocol server that gives an AI agent tools for financial data, such as accounts, transactions, and budgets. The agent calls those tools instead of you pasting statements into a chat. Some are hosted and sign in with OAuth; others run on your own computer with your own keys.

### Is there a read-only personal finance MCP server?

Yes. Candor is read-only toward your accounts and writes only workspace state you approve. Copilot Money, Truthifi, Bonsave, OpenBudget, and PopaDex are read-only, BankSync cannot move money, PocketSmith offers a separate read-only endpoint, and open-source servers such as bank-mcp run read-only on your own machine with your own keys.

### Is there an MCP server for Monarch, Copilot, or YNAB?

Monarch and Copilot Money have official ones: Monarch's returned on October 21, 2026, with weekly usage limits, and Copilot's read-only server opened to every subscriber on October 27, 2026. YNAB has no official MCP server, and community servers connect through its API with a personal access token.

### How much does Candor cost?

Candor starts at $8.25 a month on the annual plan ($99 a year), or $14.99 month to month, and the first 7 days are free.

## Try Candor's server with the agent you already use.

Create a Candor account, add Candor Finance in Claude, ChatGPT, or another agent, and ask what changed in your money this month. Compare its answer with what another server gives your agent. Agents can install Candor themselves from https://candor.money/START.md.
